Doug
Kewley
Born
in Liverpool's Dockland in 1938, he was recommended to Art School at 15, but
poor family income prevented this. After
serving as a Physical Training Instructor in the Army, Doug returned to his
trade as a mechanical fitter/HGV driver. In
total contrast, his latent passion for painting soon arose.
Rewardingly, TV invited Doug, and after three appearances commissions
flooded in, many from VIP's and show people.
Vivid
memories of cobbled streets, gas lamps, trams, horses, and poor people hallmark
his oil paintings. Doug spends many
hours in research, and his paintings are in great demand and sold throughout art
galleries, as well as prints, table place settings and Christmas Cards.
His paintings are scattered all over the world: America, South Africa,
and Australia, to name a few.
Now
living in rural Cheshire, Doug adds village street life as another dimension to
his work.
Close
links with local historians make him a very popular northern artist indeed.
