"My
painting of farm animals, domestic animals, and children in fantasy settings are
a result of my enthusiasm for Primitive or Folk Art of 19th century Britain and
America. There is a certain element
of magic in those paintings which I try to evoke and take a stage further in an
attempt to achieve a timeless quality. Some
paintings are concerned with particular rare or old breeds of animal (my
knowledge of pigs stems from childhood when a great deal of time was spent on my
uncle's pig farm in Cheshire), whilst others are simply about atmosphere, form,
and colour with a touch of humour in the subject matter."
