John L Chapman

John L Chapman was born in 1946 in Blackburn.  At the age of fifteen he left school to become a layout artist for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph,  Then, convinced of his own talent, he began to produce paintings in watercolours and oils.

His initial interest was in machinery and steam locomotives and his eye for intricate detail and technical accuracy contributed to the outstanding popularity of his work in the Northwest of England.

More recently he has concentrated on rural and agricultural scenes from the Victorian and Edwardian periods - an era that has always fascinated him.

Mr Chapman regularly exhibits in London's West End and around the country. His paintings fetch handsome prices in the market place and he is now regarded as one of England's most distinguished painters.
