Neil Faulkner
Born in Britain in 1952, Neill works
in both watercolour and oil. As a young man he was taken to the Royal Academy to
see an exhibition of paintings by Andrew Wyeth. From that day forward Neil has
found him to be a constant inspiration. As an adult he travelled to America to
see more of the Wyeth paintings.
From college Neil went to Wedgewood
for a few years, then moved to Royal Doulton where he soon became a Senior
Designer producing designs and paintings for their china. He was responsible for
numerous commemorative projects including the Silver and Golden Jubilees of the
Queen, the weddings of Charles and lady Diana, Andrew and Sarah, for many of the
royal births and the giftware commemorating the 80th, 90th
and 100th birthdays of HRH Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
Neil’s paintings fall into the
categories figurative and still life. In both areas he is concerned with the
essential points of composition, colour, texture and observation. His
interpretations are always quite stunning. He is fascinated with the way light
falls onto objects, grass, trees and through windows and doors. The light and
colour of Venice and Spain appeal to him. Spanish sunshine together with the
freshness of fruit still bearing its leaves never ceases to compel him to paint.
Although now a full time professional
painter, Neil is still in demand for commissions in the ceramic industry. In
1995 Neil was invited to have his first exhibition in London.
