Nick Mackay

Born in England in 1959, of Scottish parents, Nick Mackay has been paintings professionally for 25 years. His inspiration has always been the landscape especially wild landscapes and the coast. Nick spent some time teaching and he and his wife ran their own Art Gallery for a while, "I prefer paintings to running a gallery" says Nick, "but I wouldn't rule it out for the future."

Nick's paintings of lighthouses and the coastal scenery around Britain combine his love of the sea and the remote romance of the lighthouse, "There was nothing really romantic about being a lighthouse keeper", says Nick, "the job was lonely and dangerous most of the time. However, I find them fascinating and their locations often spectacular."

Nicks love of wild coastal scenery has led him to paint the coastlines of Scotland, Wales, Northumberland and Cornwall.

"I love mountains, the sea and bad weather, When they all combine like on the West Coast of Scotland or Wales, that's fantastic"
