Philippe Aird

Philippe Aird is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Manchester. As a child he was taught by L.S. Lowry, a family friend, and shown various drawing and paintings techniques by Harold Riley. He attended Chelsea School of Art from 1980 to 1983, having won a scholarship on the grounds of exceptional talent. During his time there he won the 1st Time Out International Video Festival award and featured in a BBC ‘Forty Minutes’ documentary. Further success followed, as Philippe made significant strides in developing his own style and methodology with a series of shows in America, London and Edinburgh interspersed with travel scholarship to Spain, the USA and Paris, all the while absorbing and applying techniques to broaden and strengthen his artistic skills.

Philippe continued to push the boundaries of creative expression, and it was during this time that he began painting in the nude, through which he freed himself from the constraints, allowing the creative process to become the art itself.

He sees his artistic life as a journey of discovery and is constantly exploring and challenging himself to greater heights (and depths) of expression. Working intuitively, but with the most solid of foundations, Philippe strives to reflect the natural forces at work in nature, and his current work is inspired to a large degree by macro and microscopic images from the human biology and the cosmos.

His work can be seen in homes and commercial spaces in several countries, including Spain, the USA, Australia, Canada and Japan.
